Trials and Triumphs That Shaped My Career

In the early stages of my journey, I lived a nomadic lifestyle, exploring different streets and spending time at McDonald’s to connect with people and dive deep into the realms of inspection and real estate businesses. These moments of resilience while living on a tight budget became transformative experiences that have had an incredibly positive impact on shaping the person I am today. Before establishing my own successful business, I experienced a diverse range of fulfilling opportunities, such as venturing into the world of reselling used books, honing my skills as a store trainer, excelling as a restaurant manager, and making a difference as a dedicated station representative. Each endeavor added valuable lessons to my repertoire and paved the way for my personal and professional growth.

I have overcome the unique challenges of being a queer, black female entrepreneur in a predominantly male-dominated industry. Living on friends’ couches, or at times, in my cubicle in a commercial building with nothing but a laptop and a dream, I started GreenWorks in 2009, but it was not an overnight success. It took me sixteen months to secure my first customer, and another four months before the second one came along. I am proud to represent my industry as a leader in home inspections, and to pass on my knowledge to less experienced business owners.

GreenWorks, a company that began with only $300, has grown into a $10 million business and is now one of the largest and most respected home inspection companies in the nation. In 2019, I was honored with the Dallas Business Journal 40 Under 40 award, while GreenWorks was ranked 1595 on the Inc. 5000 list, a highly respected national award recognizing the fastest-growing businesses. The following year, in 2020, the company achieved an even higher rank of 1200, then subsequently ranked #2092 in 2022 and #2654 in 2023.

About My Company

GreenWorks is the biggest inspection company in and around Texas, focusing on property inspections, structural engineering, environmental testing, and concierge services for both residential and commercial clients. We have grown into a team of more than 140 inspectors, engineers, consultants and administrative staff, performing more than 1500 inspections monthly in Texas, and expanding into Colorado, Georgia and Florida. We hold a strong online reputation, as evidenced by 3000+ 5-star Google reviews.

My Team

Throughout my entrepreneurial journey, my team has been a constant source of support and motivation, helping me stay focused through the ups and downs of my chosen path. Today, I have a fellowship of more than 140 people, including my biggest supporter, Jessica Chitwood, who is now the Chief Growth Officer of my company. Each team member, whether an inspector, account executive or consultant, enhances our work’s quality.

What’s Next?

I am passionate about promoting sustainability in the industry through my company and facilitating positive collaborations to expand business opportunities. To achieve this goal, I am currently working on a 2025 plan to take my company to the next level.
